There could be no better illustration of a city in the country
than Dahlem. Set among lakes and forests this residential district
made up of villas and museums is nevertheless very likely, thanks
to the university students who frequent it. As you enjoy the leafy
peace and quiet, you’re equally likely to come across young
students, older people, or possibly even diplomats on their way
to work.
Museum fur Volkerkunde
Themuseum of Ethanology comprises the following collection: American,
African, European, the Islamic Orient and many more. With a total
of 500,000 objects from around the world, this is one of the
best museums of its kind. After extensive restoration work, the
rooms of the various museums should be lighter and more majestic.
The wealth of artefacts from non-European civilisations is vast
and you’re advised to pay special attention to the collection
Oceanic ships and the Mongolian yurts.
Opening Hours: Tue-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat-Sun 11am-6pm. Entry is free
Chalet Suisse
In the heart the forest midway between the lakes and the museums,
this restaurant is an ideal place to stop on a hot summers day.
You’ll soon feel refreshed and ready to face the ethanology
museums.

Alliierten Museum
This museum on the site of the former American armed forces cinema
celebrates, perhaps a little too blatantly the role of the western
allies in the development of democracy in Germany. But it is
certainly facination to see the American air-force Dakota and
ther former Checkpoint Charlie border post. History buffs will
be equally interested in the exhibition devoted to the Soviet
blockade of the city which took place in 1948-1949.
Opening hours: Everyday except Wed. 10am-6pm
Entry is free
